Humber Connected: Sweating to the Issues
(Originally broadcast March 8, 2011)
Today's House Bloggers were Brandon Lankar and Toni Junkin
10:09 – The room is quite relaxed. Judy is teaching Laura how to shade. Mike, the director, is calm and planning his shots.
10:12 – Karen is showing our photographers, Andrew and Josh, the functions of the camera. Scott seems stress-free, however, I feel it’s all an act to ensure his crew stays calm. The crew in the studio is getting antsy because scripts are disappearing.
10:15 – Travis is panicking because there is a heavy amount of text for him to read as the host. Craig, his co-host, is calm and reviewing his notes.
10:18 – Rochelle tells me her motto as video recorder player is, “just push the spacebar, girl.” Karen tells us “when you’re born – you get a free ticket to the freak show. So enjoy.”
10:22 – Andrew, future Annie Leibowitz, scopes the room for the next great shot. Josh Lubin is deeply concentrated on making sure his graphics are crisp.
10:24 – Breanna is committing what some call is a fashion crime. She is wearing jeggings; however, she is not letting this travesty stop her from preparing for a run through of the show.
10:27 – The sweet smell of lavender fills the air with a hint of tobacco.
10:29 – We are heading to the studio for an encouraging pep rally,
10:23 – The crew is informed that this is the first hybrid news/exercise show made to date. We are officially making television history here.
10:34 – Ready for a run through! But wait – mic checks!
10:35 – Craigs dry humour fills the control room with laughter. They are now switching cameras due to teleprompter issues.
10:37 – The crew in the studio are gathering together to move the desk in sixty seconds while blue rolls. By the looks of it, the desk is hella heavy.
10:38 – Craig’s excercising makes the crew laugh in hysterics while trying to stay professional and stay on task.
10:40 – Karen suggests to Scott to have the single shots closer (have the host fill the frame more) to get better coverage and to give the show more dynamic look.
10:43 – Scott is having a moment with Laura that my eavesdropping skills are not able to pick up on.
10:45 – Mike is switching between cameras gracefully yet with stern power.
10:47 – The run through is a little short! The floor director, Christine, races to the control room to tell the teleprompter to insert certain text to help the talent. She is doing great at making sure everything is organized and the talent is happy.
10:52 – The boss lady, Karen, tells Mike that the rehearsal was successful. This is a good sign.
10:57 – We’re on in 40 seconds! This official show is about to start.
10:58 – Breanna, the assistant director, counts Travis down to the show. She’s a girl that knows what she’s doing (despite the jeggings).
11:00 – Everything is running smooth so far. About to cue Craig.
11:04 – Scott is giving Mike a few suggestions on what shots to tighten.
11:07 – Craig and Travis’ exercise motions are starting to look like they are at an elementary school prom – dancing to “Milkshake” by Kelis. They should be comedians.
11:13 – The show is about to end. It was funny and extremely educational.
11:14 – Breanna is counting out the show.
11:15 – That’s a wrap!
