Humber Connected: LIVE!

From colourful lights to a colourful performance, Matthew Dupuis prepared well in advance to make his show as successful as it turned out to be. With the band Ash & Bloom performing live, the studio was lit up with excitement and full of life. The rehearsal was cut short, but it was enough to give the audio operator an idea of how to manage the levels for the musicians while they sang and played guitar.
As Michael D said, “directing a show like this is something that you have to experience for yourself.”
At first, Michael was nervous about having to direct the show, because there were numerous things going on on-set that he had to account for and capture to truly grasp the mood of the show. Also, he had the responsibility of choosing shots since Matthew purposefully left them out of the script. Although it may have temporarily added stress, it made it somewhat easier to direct, because he didn’t have to have his nose buried in a script and could watch his monitors instead.
Overall, the show was a great success. The musicians had a stellar performance and were elaborate with their answers when being interviewed between songs. They were very humble and kind-hearted individuals, so the warm glow of yellow and orange lights in the backdrop complimented their personalities and the intended mood of the show.
