Humber Connected: It's a Numbers Game!
Today's Blogger/Photographer is Mutahir!
Yesterday I worked on a game show called “It’s a Numbers Game”. The goal of the show was simple, a contestant goes on forward and is given scenarios accompanied with a total number. This number is then compared with the actual number and the goal is to get a perfect or at least stay under, going over is the bad part. This show required a lot of prep time from all facets of the production, most importantly audio. On the floor we had to move around the desk and keep proper cinematography from the cameras so that the shot’s were well composed, we also had an extra individual operating the game board hiding behind the desk and reacting on-the-fly with how the game was operating.
Behind the scenes it got very hectic, we had numerous people that were not there for the shoot and we were in effect running low on people. All of us (even me!) had to operate double duty and make the show work. I learned that with a lack of even a couple of people these positions got more and more hectic. Everyone on set that day had multiple hats they needed to wear, I for one was called in as a second audio assist. My job comprised of making sure I played proper sound effects for proper scenarios such as when the contestant responded with their answer I had to quickly pick the effect and play it. During rehearsal I fired off some wrong effects but that’s what the rehearsal was for! I quickly gained some confidence and when the show went live everyone was doing they’re job right!
In the end the show was running really low on time but we eventually managed, I still to this day have no idea what went on in those last 10 seconds! The show came out looking a success and I was happy to serve as the assist for sound. That’s all I really have to say for “It’s a Numbers Game”
