BRTV Section-one put on a show like no other this semester.Producer Joey Chan put together a show package that would have professionalbehind-the-scenes crewmembers shaking in their boots. Chan’s show, “HumberConnected: Good Living,” was hosted by Jeanette Liu and Tai Chi expert, MichaelHerring. The show demonstrated the benefits of practicing Tai Chi in anyenvironment. Although, the fluid motions and relaxing music set the calmatmosphere in front of the cameras, the crews working behind-the-scenes werefighting to keep the show from collapsing into an utter mess. During therehearsal, anything that could go wrong went wrong. It started off with noslate on graphics. Then there were multiple technical difficulties with theaudio board, which needed to be reset. Also, Joey’s unique opening sequence hadto be timed perfectly with Jeanette’s entrance. This of course took severalattempts to get right. Also, the host was not reading from the teleprompter, which caused a bit of confusion in the control room. Jeanette had memorized adifferent version of the script and used her memory as a guideline to progressthrough the show. As the rehearsal concluded, everyone quickly fine-tuned theirjobs and repaired any minor errors. When everyone returned to their battlestations, the live show started off strong. Everything seemed to be runningsmoothly, and our fearless director, Cody, had full control of the show likestrings on a puppet, until Jeanette began speaking but no audio returned to thecontrol room. The batteries on her wireless lav mic were drained. The show hadto come to a full halt and restart from the beginning. Joey’s face was paintedwith anxiety, as the show was seconds away from going live again. Cody, on theother hand, stayed focused and directed a show that could only be described asperfection. Everyone was able to pull off their roles flawlessly withoutincident. The hosts were naturals, the crews were relieved, and the producerwas overjoyed. It started off rough but ended with a perfect run. Our mostcomplex show yet turned into arguably our best piece of work. This show set thebar up high for the BRTV program as we near the conclusion of semester 2.
