Today’s show, “Humber Connected: Editing Tips N’ Tricks” was produced by Kwame Appiah-Kubi and directed by Selina Colatosti, with Maverick Aversa as host. Being the second show of the day, we got off to a great start just before 10:00am with Jordan shading Close-Ups of Maverick. Levels were good in audio with Melissa on duty. Judy was showing Michael the various fabulous wipes on switcher, and one that caught my ear immediately was the “Sparkle Slide”. Selina and her AD Cameron were reviewing the script, and soon called a meeting in the studio once everyone was ready.
Kwame tells us that his show is satirical and that we had better not use the featured editing tips and tricks in our own projects. Selina outlines the camera plan, with Camera 1 on Close-Ups, Camera 3 on Medium Close-Ups and Camera 2 on Bumper Shots. This show has many roll-ins, due to the nature of its content and will use various switcher generated wipes to bring that essence du whimsy we all know and crave. One of the originally planned videos is not working so two PSAs will be used instead, go team contingency! At 12 clips and countless cuts with animated wipes, ultra cheesy hilarity is to be expected. Mallory asks, “How cheesy?” and Selina indicates flaming fromage.
At 10:16 we go to rehearsal! Kayla and Nora are in excellent spirits on teleprompter and graphics. Rehearsal is going very smoothly in the control room and Maverick seems truly comfortable on camera, reading naturally and being generally engaging. Blue hits a minor snag but the ball keeps rolling and the clips are hilarious. By the end of rehearsal it is clear that the show is exactly on time, awesome work!
In conference, Karen suggests to Selina that she use one kind of transition per section of content, to make the segments more distinct. Kwame, Cameron and Selina go over their times again and they all seem happy and on the ball, communicating easily.
Bars and tone at 10:49, show goes well and comes in just under so blue is extended slightly for credits. In reflection, Kwame is happy with his show and advises that producers work on their show early instead of cramming and under sleeping. Selina and Kwame agree that back-up clips are a lifesaver. The show was a great success and we can`t wait to see it online and link it to our friends.
